This course has been accredited by Radiation Health QLD.
This course is designed to fulfil the legislative requirements from Radiation Health Queensland for training in laser operation and laser safety, in order to gain a laser use licence for a Class 4 laser for dental procedures. The course has been accredited by Radiation Health Queensland for this purpose. It is suited to dental hygienists and oral health therapists as well as dentists considering using a laser in clinical work.
This lecture course which incorporates short case presentations and videos of clinical procedures provides a basis for commencing laser use in clinical dental practice. The following topics will be addressed:
- Principles of laser operation
- Unique properties of laser energy
- Laser - Tissue interactions
- Hard tissue laser procedures (including caries therapy, bleaching, and desensitization)
- Soft tissue laser procedures (including periodontal disinfection and biostimulation)
- Regulation of lasers
- Using lasers within the scope of clinical practice
- Laser safety requirements for clinical practice.
The course includes a formal written examination to ensure that the standard of knowledge and understanding required by the regulations has been met.
