Author, international speaker, and myth-busting orthodontist, Dr Geoffrey Hall has been a central figure in the field of orthodontics in Australia and internationally for several decades.
Dr Hall received his dental training at the University of Melbourne in 1983, and pursued his postgraduate orthodontic training at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania in 1990.
Dr Hall has a deep passion for clinical orthodontics, orthodontic teaching, and entrepreneurial pursuits. He practices at his busy Cheltenham practice in Melbourne, specialising in:
- early treatment
- conventional adolescent therapy
- short-term orthodontics (Smilefast)
- cosmetic treatment options such as lingual braces, Invisalign and other aligner systems, and
- interdisciplinary treatment, including orthognathic surgical cases.
Known as the myth-busting orthodontist, Dr Hall has been a pioneer in modern day orthodontics and education. He was the first dentist and orthodontist to use Invisalign outside the United States, brought micro implants to the Australian shores and was one of the first in Australia to utilise the Herbst appliance.
Dr Hall has a strong interest in practice management and efficiencies in practice and was instrumental in bringing the leading orthodontic practice management software Orthotrac to Australia in 1994. He also was a cofounder of DentalEd, brought the Seattle Study Club to Australia, and founded the New Horizons Study Group. He was the founder of the elite Australasian Orthodontic Study Club.
Dr Hall has been on the orthodontic teaching staff at both the University of Melbourne and the University of Pennsylvania, and he has served as consultant orthodontist at Monash Medical Centre in the Craniofacial Unit. Dr Hall developed a short term cosmetic orthodontic treatment called Smilefast practiced by many dentists internationally.
Dr Hall lectures both nationally and internationally on a range of other orthodontic topics and has been the keynote speaker at various international orthodontic congresses.
Not content to rest on his laurels, in 2018, Dr Hall launched the OrthoED Institute to provide comprehensive orthodontic training to general dentists. Offering courses from a few days to a full 2-year post-graduate diploma, Dr Hall’s OrthoED teaches general dentists about orthodontics and how to integrate it into their practice.
Dr Hall has written many articles and in 2020, co-authored a textbook ‘Clear Aligners – All you need to know’.
In 2020, Dr Hall developed the Complete Aligner Treatment Planning Service (CAPS) to help dentists provide optimal digital setups and allow them to treat even the most advanced of aligner cases. The service delivers predictable and profitable aligner outcomes for the general dentist and supports aligner systems including Invisalign, SureSmile, Smilestyler and Angelalign.
Dr Hall is a member of many associations including the Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, and various Lingual Orthodontic Associations. He has 2 wonderful adult children and has been blessed with 3 gorgeous grandchildren.
