The intended audience for this event includes:
Poor oral hygiene and disease can be more prevalent in ageing patients or those with disabilities. This interactive lecture and workshop continual professional development day will provide clinicians with the awareness and practical solutions to assess, improve and maintain the oral health needs of the ageing and or disabled patient.
Session 1: Geriatric Patient
- Ageing population and the role of the dentist
- Risk assessment and treatment planning
- Preventative treatment options for maintaining oral health in older patients including skills to assist patients with cognitive disabilities.
- Silver Fluoride workshop.
Session 2: Special Needs Patient
- Theoretical knowledge of the challenges relating to oral disease in special needs patients
- Communication techniques with the patient and when appropriate, the carer/family member/guardian.
- Workshop instructing carers on oral health care techniques.
Session 3: Workshop - Wheelchairs and transfers to Dental Chairs demonstration with Occupational Therapist
