This is a comprehensive course covering both Basic Life Support (BLS) of a collapsed patient and the management of an acutely unwell patient due to a range of serious and life threatening emergencies, and manage them using the Australian Resuscitation Council Protocols.

Knowledge delivered will include:
The DRSABCD protocol for managing the collapsed and unresponsive patient. The ABCDE protocol for managing the acutely unwell patient and how to apply this to the common medical emergencies which can arise in the Dental Environment. Materials in the form of protocols and flow charts will be used, which participants can keep, so they can apply the knowledge and skills learnt and do not need to remember all the details.

Skills taught will include:
Airways Management, ventilation and the application of supplemental oxygen.

CPR & AED use:
Additional skills required to manage the emergencies which can arise in the dental surgery, such as administration of drugs where indicated. This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how recognise and manage a variety of emergencies which can arise in the Dental environment. It will also give participants the knowledge they need to prepare their surgeries to respond when required in an emergency. This course will meet the QIP Practice Accreditation standards regarding Emergency Management Training and teach participants how they can meet the QIP requirements for Medical Emergency preparedness.
