Course Overview

Managing anterior trauma is one of the most visible challenges in modern restorative dentistry. Whether it is a simple incisal chip or a complex Class IV fracture, the goal is always a restoration that is physically durable and optically invisible.

This comprehensive full-day course provides a deep dive into the latest composite technologies and clinical techniques. We will focus on the dual-pathway approach to anterior aesthetics: utilising the high-efficiency "Color Cloud" technology of Tetric Plus for daily excellence, and the sophisticated layering capabilities of IPS Empress Direct for high-end characterisation.

Part 1: The Lecture

The morning session focuses on the science of "invisible" integration and the systematic approach to trauma cases.

  • Material Selection: Navigating the Ivoclar restorative range. When to choose the streamlined 4-shade workflow of Tetric Plus versus the artistic layering of IPS Empress Direct

  • The Physics of Colour: Understanding the "Chameleon Effect" and how translucency shifts allow for natural aesthetic matches

  • The Invisible Join: Preparation designs for trauma, including the "Infinity Bevel" and lingual shelf construction to eliminate the "grey line" at the fracture site

  • Managing Internal Anatomy: Replicating mamelons, incisal halos, and enamel cracks without necessarily using specialised tints

  • Adhesion Protocols: Ensuring long-term retention in high-stress trauma sites using Adhese Universal and the VivaPen system

Part 2: The Hands-on Workshop

Put theory into practice using high-fidelity models and the latest Ivoclar instrumentation.

  • The Efficiency Workflow: Complete a Class IV restoration using Tetric Plus. Experience non-stick handling with OptraSculpt and the 3-second flash-cure protocol using Bluephase PowerCure

  • The Artisan Workflow: Create a high-end, multi-layered restoration using IPS Empress Direct. Master the use of shades and tints to create depth and life-like translucency

  • Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Anatomy: Learning how to replicate the surface texture of the natural tooth

  • The Perfect Polish: A predictable two-step sequence using OptraGloss spiral wheels to achieve a stain-resistant, high-lustre finish

  • Simplify shade selection by mastering the 4-shade system of Tetric Plus for the majority of clinical cases

  • Understand translucency shifts to ensure increments are fully cured and aesthetically balanced

  • Implement a repeatable protocol for Class IV fractures, from the initial lingual shelf to the final polish

  • Master the "Infinity Bevel" technique to make restoration margins disappear

  • Utilise the OptraSculpt system to minimise "pull-back" and reduce the need for extensive finishing

This course is designed for clinicians looking to elevate their anterior composite skills, increase clinical speed through better material handling, and gain confidence in managing emergency trauma cases.
