The replacement of single teeth in the anterior maxilla with dental implants is a common clinical indication. Early implant placement, which refers to the insertion of an implant about 6 to 8 weeks after extraction. It is the most common treatment approach. Due to its wide case inclusion criteria, sites with
pathology (e.g tooth related infection, draining sinuses, vertical root factures), and with thin soft tissue phenotypes and high aesthetic demands can be managed predicably. In the anterior maxilla, the added challenge is to reliably reconstruct the hard and soft tissues to achieve good aesthetic outcomes.
In this seminar, the topic of early implant placement (type 2) in the anterior maxilla will be presented, with the focus on achieving predicable and reproducible results. The discussions will be supported by video case presentations. The following questions will be addressed:
• What are the surgical objectives for hard and soft tissue augmentation with early implant placement and how can this be reliably achieved?
• What is the optimum flap design? When is a 3-sided trapezoid flap preferred to a 2-sided flap?
• What suturing techniques are there for predictable flap closure?
• Is there a difference in the surgical management of thin soft tissue phenotypes versus thick soft tissue phenotypes?
• Is digital planning necessary? Are surgical guides a help or a hindrance?
• Is there a role for socket grafting with early implant placement in the anterior maxilla?
• What surgical tips and tricks are there to improve treatment outcomes?
Advanced Implant Surgical Seminars focus on surgical techniques to optimise outcomes and minimize the risk of complications with dental implants. This seminar will suit clinicians with experience in dental implant surgery.
