The intended audience for this event includes:

As the proportion of adults in Australia who retain some of their teeth into older age increases, it is this group that presents with a possible need for prosthetic replacement of their missing teeth. Since the acceptance of dental implant related treatment as a modality for the replacement of missing teeth, it has largely replaced fixed bridgework and partial dentures for the restoration of both multiple and single missing teeth. This form of treatment however is not universally accessible because of anatomic or personal issues. The removable partial denture has therefore been the mainstay for the treatment of partially dentate mouths which have been assessed as needing treatment.

This course over three half days intends to reintroduce partial dentures as a reliable treatment alternative that has been used for many generations. The course will be conducted in modules with hands-on components to rekindle in the operator the art and science behind these restorations.

Course Modules

Module 1: Introduction Wednesday, 25 February 2015

The first module will be an introduction to partial edentulism. During this module attendees will learn the importance of study models, surveying and reviewing base materials. You will examine and assess the need for replacement of teeth, how to identify the right treatment plan, study partial denture design concepts and prescription writing as an adjunct to laboratory liaison.

Module 2: Preparation Wednesday, 15 April 2015

This second module will demonstrate the required methods in the preparation of the mouth for the fitting of the partial dentures including analysis of the natural occlusion. An effective impression technique and model construction will be demonstrated. The necessity for trial setup of teeth will be shown as it impacts on casting designs and in the case of anterior teeth their positioning for cosmetic reasons. The fitting of the final denture is an important step in the success of treatment using partial dentures and techniques will be presented to assist in determining fit and stability of new appliances.

Module 3: Advanced Cases Wednesday, 17 June 2015

The third module will focus on more advanced cases to include crowns, implants, semi precision and precision attachments. Attendees will review occlusal support and overdenture construction and assess the free end saddle difficulties and stress breaking. Attendees are encouraged to bring models of their own cases for discussion.
