Suturing is an important aspect of any dental surgical procedure where there is either cutting or injury to the soft tissue in the oral cavity. Proper placement of sutures can help in faster and proper healing of the tissues involved. It is very important that the selection of the correct type of suturing technique and suture material is used.

This course will cover practical in principles of oral surgery, including:

  • Armamentarium
  • Tissue Handling – including attached gingiva, alveolar mucosa and tongue
  • Suturing – different types of suturing techniques including interrupted, continuous and mattress suture; choosing the correct suture

Includes morning tea

Learning objectives:

  • To appreciate the need for appropriate soft tissue handling
  • To be able to suture using various techniques
  • To be confident in suturing different tissues

The hands-on component will be conducted using pig jaws, trotters and tongues and silicone.
